MODALITIES

In addition to listed skills services, we utilize multiple electrical modalities to reduce pain, spasm and/or swelling, stimulate a healing environment and speed recovery.

MECHANICAL TRACTION

Mechanical traction is a form of therapy used to decompress the spine. It is a mechanical device that exerts a gentle and controlled pull through the spine to help open up the space between the vertebrae or spinal segments that are potentially being compressed. It elongates muscle tissue, and decreases muscle guarding . Mechanical traction can be used  for  cervical (neck) spine and lumbar (back) spine conditions.

Conditions that may benefit

are listed below but not limited to

  • Bone Spurs
  • Degenerative Disc Disease
  • Herniated Discs
  • Facet Disease
  • Sciatica
  • Pinched Nerves
  • Spinal Stenosis

ULTRASOUND

Ultrasound is applied using a round-headed wand or probe that is put in direct contact with the skin. Ultrasound gel is used as a barrier to help reduce friction and assist in transmission of the ultrasonic waves. The waves are generated by the vibration of crystals within the head of the wand/probe. The sound waves that pass through the skin cause a vibration of the local tissues. This vibration can cause a deep heat locally and to the desired area. The ultrasound can penetrate the tissue between 1 and 5cm.

Ultrasound is benefical for tissue healing, extensibility of the musculature, increasing blood flow to the affected area and reducing pain.

Conditions that may benefit

are listed below but not limited to

  • Tendonitis
  • Muscle Spasms
  • Frozen Shoulder
  • Bursitis
  • Muscle Strains
  • Joint Contractures/Tightness
  • Ligament Injuries

DIATHERMY

Diathermy is the use of high-frequency electromagnetic current that produces a deep heat inside a targeted tissue. It is a controlled and comfortable heat that can reach areas as deep as two inches beneath the skin’s surface.  Diathermy may be used to increases blood flow to the affected area to increase extensibility and relaxation of the muscles, relieve pain, decrease tightness through joint capsules as well as accelerate the healing process.

Conditions that may benefit

are listed below but not limited to

  • Arthritis
  • Back Pain
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Muscle Spasms
  • Myositis
  • Neuralgia
  • Sprains and Strains
  • Tenosynovitis
  • Tendonitis
  • Bursitis

VASOPNEUMATIC COMPRESSION DEVICE (VCD)

Vasopneumatic uses a small compressor to fill a compression sleeve or compression boot with air. It is a controlled pressure that reduces swelling and inflammation along with increasing blood flow/circulation. The compression sleeve is used for the shoulders, arms and hands. The compression boot is used for the legs and feet. Vasopneumatic compression is very helpful following knee or ankle injury/surgery.

Conditions that may benefit

are listed below but not limited to

  • Lymphedema
  • Joint Edema
  • Decreased Circulation
  • Post-surgical Swelling

ELECTRONIC NEUROMUSCULAR STIMULATION

Electrical stimulation ( E-Stim) is the application of an electrical current to the affected area via electrode stimulation pads. It relieves pain by producing a pulse that is adjusted to your preference to block pain signals traveling from your body to the your brain.

Russian stimulation (RS) is a form of electrical stimulation used in reeducation and assisting a muscle to improve strength and muscle tone. It uses a stronger stimulation to elicit a full muscle contraction. The most common use of RS is retraining the quadriceps muscles following knee surgery/injury. It may also be utilized to assist with muscle contraction after a TIA (stroke).

  • Post Surgical Conditions...
    neck, shoulders, hand,
    hips, back, knee,
    ankle, foot
  • Back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Knee pain
  • Muscle spasms
